FAQs

  • It’s a book club. Technically, it’s a club for any content we may want to review together, written or otherwise. Some sub-groups, like the research sub-club, may look at abstract- or journal-style research publication formats whereas other sub-groups, like the education sub-club, may look at textbook chapters or video/graphical simulations. Submit what you want, within reason, even if you aren’t sure which sub-club it could pertain to.

  • No, you can come from any affiliation, though the original intent of the club had been to facilitate introductions and camaraderie among EMS and related professions, especially in the New Haven, CT, area. As for content, if you want to review something that seems outside the scope of EMS in general (you can always suggest a new sub-group for a type of content or submit content that you are not sure how to assign to existing sub-groups), please contact us on the Contact page or at contact@emsbookclub.org. But if you have something you want to read entirely out of scope of EMS that is just “for fun,” consider the “off-duty” sub-club meant to be a catch-all for anything else you find entertaining, relaxing, or otherwise worth sharing.

  • Literally nothing* but how else are we going to meet each other? Contact sydney.zink@ynhh.org with any interest in organizational/administrative participation.

Keep in mind that there is no formal affiliation with the organizer(s)’ own personal nor professional affiliations, so please do not reach out to e.g. the Yale School of Medicine nor the Yale York St. ER on behalf of this club. You can reach Syd directly at the aforementioned email address or contact the club at contact@emsbookclub.org.

*not exactly true, Syd is an EMT working at Yale New Haven Hospital in the ER, previously in the UChicago ER, with goals of returning to the Chicago Fire Department in fire service after CFD ridealongs/clinicals in the affiliated medic program. But the ER techs don’t have much opportunity to interact with the local medics/EMTs/fire companies who come in, so please join the club and say ‘hi’ in the ER to your ER techs :)

  • Use our submission form! Don’t forget to sign up to the newsletter and keep up with the Events page to stay afloat of upcoming sub-club content announcements and meetings.

  • Not necessarily. Depending upon the consensus among those who expressed interest in a particular sub-group meeting, some meetings may be virtual vs. in-person (e.g. at a café), and there may be additional events (social, educational) that necessitate an in-person format or conversely offer a Zoom-only meeting option. If you’re available in New Haven, though, we’d really love for you to come in person when the meeting option is on the table, as the original point of this club was to facilitate introductions and camaraderie among the local EMS and related professions.
